Play the role of an outside observer and narrate a depressive episode as if it was happening to someone else.

Sometimes, taking a step back can offer a fresh perspective on what we are too close to see clearly. Pretending to be an outsider looking in may give you the ability to view your depressive episodes with a more objective lens. Be descriptive and try to capture this ‘alter ego’s’ experience of depression completely. This exercise could potentially lead to new insights and ways of managing depressive episodes. Be careful not to disconnect too much or dissociate.
