Cracking the Code

Draft a flash fiction piece in which the protagonist must solve a cryptic message or puzzle in order to avert disaster.

This exercise stimulates innovative thinking whilst creating suspense. The urgency of the impending disaster paired with the mental challenge gives your character a ticking clock – a staple for suspense. How does the pressure affect your character’s decision-making? What are the consequences of failing to crack the code?
