Weave a discussion around a seemingly mundane topic, but infuse it with underlying threats.

Underneath a pleasant conversation about something as benign as gardening or cooking, let the threat peek through subtly. What does that imply about the relation between the characters? Why are they threatening each other, yet maintaining a facade of civility? Make your readers feel uneasy and alert, catching the implications rather than explicit threats.
