Mourning the Living

A character has to mourn the ‘loss’ of a loved one who hasn’t died, but has changed so drastically that they are no longer the person they used to know.

This prompts deals with the painful reality of having to say goodbye to someone who is technically still there but in essence has faded away due to circumstances like illness, addiction, betrayal, or personal transformation. How does the character cope with this unique kind of loss? What are the stages of their grief and how does it alter their relationships and perspective towards life? The prompt sheds light on themes of loss, change, acceptance, reconciliation, and the vicious impermanence of life.
