Morals in Question

Write a story where the dichotomy between good and evil becomes blurred as the protagonist questions their definition of what makes a villain.

Traditionally, villains are depicted explicitly; the embodiment of pure malevolence. But what if the protagonist begins to see shades of gray within this established black and white narrative? Do the actions of the villain seem justified from a different perspective? How does this realization affect the protagonist’s understanding of right and wrong?
