One can learn a lot about a society by exploring what it leaves behind in its ruin. Consider the physical remnants of the society—homes, infrastructure, artifacts—as well as the more intangible ones—memories, stories, shared experiences—that the survivors discover. Perhaps these remnants shape their understanding of the previous world, influence their decisions, or offer them hope or despair in their circumstances.
