Hunted in their Dreams

Create a story where characters in a fantastical setting are hunted by a terrifying being while they sleep.

Using dreams as a vehicle for horror allows a lot of creative freedom. The hunter can be a mystical creature, a witch’s curse, or even a malevolent spirit. It’s an exploration of fear on a very primal, subconscious level. The terror intensifies with the inevitability of sleep. How does society change when true safety can only be found in wakefulness? What measures would people go to stay awake?
